Statewide Rail/Highway Data Collection
MARLIN collected data at every Florida highway-rail grade crossing, including GPS points, signals, lights, photos from many angles, and then entered the data into the Highway-Rail Grade Crossing Inventory. GIS maps were generated to verify GPS data collected, captured data on Bubble Sheets for automated data entry, generated multiple listings for manual QA/QC of collected data. The project covered the inventory of over 6,000 rail/highway crossings across the State, efforts included: field data collection; rail operations data collection; collection of ADTs; collection of School Bus counts; and capturing multiple digital images at all crossings.
This was a multi-year contract to collect and/or verify data at each rail/highway grade-crossing in the State of Florida (approximately 6,000). Additionally, this project included gathering data from: (a) each railroad authorized to operate in the State (timetables and other operational data); (b) counties, cities, and local municipalities (traffic data); (c) public school districts throughout the state (number of school buses daily and the average bus ridership; and (d) visiting each crossing to obtain pictures, collect data, and collect GPS data.
